Belle: I detoured here with The Lamstock for a brunch session before heading up to uni. So I do apologise for the iPhone quality photos. In the Annex is located in the suburb of Forrest Lodge (which I had only heard of its existence on that day) and I was really amazed by the dishes that came out of this tiny cafe located within a tiny shopping strip.

Nothing beats starting the day with coffee for my dear friends.

Small Coffee ($3.5) and Large Coffee ($4).

Beef 2 Ways, Artichoke N Egg ($18). The plating was an artwork on its own and was a delight to eat.

Crumbed Egg with Leek and Broad Beans ($18). I was surprised when this dish was served with a rather large loaf of bread on the side. The egg was nicely cooked and the acidity of the leek salad helped cut through the thick and rich egg yolk.

Breaky Burrito, Scrambled, Rice N Beans, Guac, Jalapeños ($10). It was a decent sized burrito and perfect for someone who wants a heavy breakfast meal.

I have read about their Bubblegum flavoured Lamingtons ($4) before and wanted to try it. The flavours were there but I was rather disappointed with it being too dry.

I also could not pass on the Kumquat Cheesecake because it is not often that you come accross Kumquat on a menu. Earlier this year I baked some Poached Kumquat Almond Cake for the Bake Sale Vs Cake Store in Redfern and was intrigued to find kumquat used in a cheesecake. I would have preferred kumquat flavours infused into the cheesecake, but instead was rather disappointed to just have a candied kumquat on top of the cheesecake.

The food here was quite a hit and miss. There were a few standout dishes and a few disappointments.
