Belle: Before I start, I want to apologise that this is a long long over due post. It has been so long that this blog post covers two separate visits here; for both breakfast and lunch.
When news of Excelsior Jones popped up earlier this year it was on my to do list right away for many reasons. Firstly it was something new in Ashfield that is not associated with dumplings (mind you I love my dumplings). There is ample street parking available as it is located smack bang in the middle of suburbia Ashfield on Queen St and not on busy Liverpool Rd. Lastly, the promise of a juicy burger.
My first visit was for a brunch session, so the promise of the burger had to be delayed. We visited on a quiet weekday for a catchup over coffee and breakfast.
Pork Hock with Pearl Shallots, Fried Buckwheat, Poached Egg & Fresh Herbs. This was certainly a different breakfast dish. I found the combination odd but it worked well. The egg on top was a nice addition to the meal.
Another coffee session with a bigger group over some lunch.
Marinated Zucchini, Haloumi, Glazed Red Onion, Roquette Sandwich ($12 with extra $2 for Ham). This was the first time I tried Marinated Zucchini and it made the sandwich a delight to eat. You get a good trio of sour, bitter and salt.
And for round three? I know I will be back here in the near future. And news on their Facebook page has revealed the new Spring Menu will be in this Monday.
