Belle: The Sydney Morning Herald City2Surf is my annual tradition with D-Lam and we love to finish it off with a good (usually unhealthy) meal. But this year, instead of the sausage sandwiches, we opted for a healthier option. Earth To Table was the first raw food restaurant to open in Sydney, and after having tried Sadhana Kitchen in Newtown, Earth to Table was on my to-do list for the longest time. Lat week I finally took the opportunity to check this place out.

After the long 14km run, my body was in desperate need for food high in carbs and protein. I was just craving for something sweet, so I decided to go for the Banana Bread served warm with cinnamon, coconut and almond spread ($8.95). I was satisfied with this choice. It came in two pieces and although they were quite small in size, it was dense and rich. The nut butter also provided that boost of protein.

D-Lam went for the Greenola – sprouted buckwheat, pepitas, sunflower seeds, goji berries, chia and spirulina for that green edge ($9.5 regular, $14.5 large). I wasn’t looking too forward to this because of the spirulina and was cringing at my first bite. It was not over powering at all and I actually preferred this to my Banana Bread. It was not too sweet and had a combination of textures.

I decided to order Hibiscus Kombucha ($6.00) because I was always curious about what fermented tea will taste like. Little did I know that it would taste like an alcopop (but only containing less than 1% alcohol). It just seemed a little bit early to be having this drink and I regretted ordering this.

For D-Lam it was the Latte with steamed almond mylk. I love almond mylk in my breakfast cereals but I was not a fan of it with coffee. I guess it is more of an acquired taste and I am not used to it. Also the almond mylk curdled when it was mixed in with coffee.

And to top off our morning, we finished with a sweet slice of Caramel Chocolate Swirl Cheezecake ($9.9) with a scoop of coconut ice cream ($4.5). Raw vegan desserts never cease to amaze me. It was creamy and smooth. With every mouthful I kept questioning myself “this can’t be raw?!”. I would travel back to eat this again or any their other desserts.

With our bellies full of wholesome goodness and putting back all the calories that we just burnt, it was well worth it and a great start to the day.
